Travis,

Nooooo, what he went to jail for was pissing off the cop. The cop
simply had to find a better reason than "he cussed at me and pissed me
off" in order to throw him in jail for a little "time out" so to
speak. I think Chief Inspector is a fairly high rank in the Brit
police dept.
 BTW, the offense was "breach of  the peace".
