I go back and forth on this thing. Frankly, I'd love to see us get off
oil for reasons NOT related to global warming (i.e. supporting OPEC).
But that's a different subject.
So are we hurting our planet? Yeah, I think that's pretty obvious.
We've been doing it a long time. Pollution, ozone holes and now
greenhouse gases.
So can we actually KILL the planet? I think the idea is ludicrous. Can
we make it uninhabistable? I don't believe that either. I think the
worst we could do is make it uninhabitable for US. Are we doing that?
Yeah, maybe. And while that's not nice, maybe that's just the natural
order of things.
We talk about all the species that are becoming extinct. Guess what?
Species have ALWAY been dying off - even before we got here. That's
just the way things are too (imo).
So I would like to see us gett off oil. Bush never convinced me that
we can't do it and his motives weren't exactly beyond reproach. BMW
produces a 745 that runs on hydrogen (they get 5 years no corp taxes
on the sales of the care from their govt). There ARE houses and cities
that run without a drop of oil.
We have the technology. We have the ability. What we don't have is the
commitment. Because "going green' has for some reason, been labeled a
"Liberal" issue. How stupid. I can't think there aren't Conservatives
out there, who would find it objectionable for us to get off oil.
Maybe not on this board but I know they are out there.
Anyways, just some random thoughts.
