I'm with you on this one too. I smoked when I was in the military. One
of the things the writer misses, is that people in combat situations
just need a smoke to relax and release the stress without a buzz.
Combat, special forces training etc... are where people are most
likely to own a pack of cigarettes and also where they have the fewest
opportunities in a given day, to actually smoke. I think I probably
had 3 - 5 cigarettes on a "heavy smoking" day. And then, I rarely got
to finish the whole thing! And that was when I was hangin out with
guys whose training was unusual. Like instead of doing five miles, we
would do one mile - at absolute full-on evasion speed. Try it
sometime. Get done with that, and you're not going to want a smoke for
a few hours. So this stinks of absolute political BS to me.
