Greetings,
Am stuck in Ghor Province while trying to get down with British combat
forces in Helmand. Aircraft are short in Afghanistan so it's easy to get
stuck in places. I checked into having an airplane fly to pick me up and
deliver me to the unit, but the price was quite steep.
So yesterday, while stuck here, I asked the commander of an American Police
Mentoring Team about spending a couple days with his troops. He was happy
at the idea of taking me along. Unfortunately, as per normal, the U.S. Army
Public Affairs have not managed to get approval, so I won't have the chance
to write about that team. Public Affairs: losing one media battle at a
time... The Lithuanians will get the ink that our folks might have liked.
Unfortunately, the British unit I am to go with, 2 Rifles, has been taking
serious casualties. I was with 2 Rifles in Iraq and they are good fighters
in an excellent outfit. In total, British units have taken dozens killed
and wounded in the first 10 days of this month, including 8 killed on
Friday. I anticipate seeing much combat with them.
In the meantime, a new and interesting photo-dispatch is published. Please
