*Subject:* [RumblesAList] Wet RTS When driving home yesterday, the news comes on and says that the main water pump that feeds the elevated storage tank in Jarrell had broken and that water restrictions would be in place until "further notice".
I collect rain water in a 1700 gallon cistern and use it to water my lawn and gardens. I turned the irrigation system on around 8:30 last night. A guy knocks on my door about 9:00: Water Man: I'm with the HOA. This area is under water restrictions. You can't water your lawn. Me: I don't use HOA water to water the lawn. I have my own supply. Water Man: You can't water your lawn, sir; this area is under water restrictions. Me: I'm not using water from the your tank. I have a cistern in the back that I collect rain water in. My irrigation system only uses water from that tank. It is not even connected to the districts water supply. You can check the meter. Water Man: Doesn't matter. The rule says you can't water your lawn. Me: What if my dog pees on the lawn. Is that allowed? Water Man: <puzzled look> Me: My dog peeing on the lawn costs this district the same amount of water as me using my own water supply to water the lawn. So why should my dog be allowed to pee on the lawn but I can't use my own water supply. Water Man: It isn't fair that you get to water outside when no one else can. Me: <deep breath>... I paid for the water reclamation system and the cistern and the plumbing supplies and put the out the effort to install it all. How is it not fair that I get to use it? Water Man: No one else can water their gardens. Me: Did you vote for Obama? Water Man: What? No. I'm a Republican. Me: Do you realize that your argument against me using my own water supply is Socialism? If the co-ops electric supply goes down... should I shut off my windmill so that my lights go out just like every one else? Water Man: <hurt look becomes look of realization> I get your point. Sorry to bother you. Another satisfied customer.
