Michael Barone - Lessons from the 2009 election
results<http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/blogs/beltway-confidential/Lessons-from-the-2009-election-results-69054827.html>

The 2009 election results are certainly not going to make it easy for
Speaker Nancy Pelosi to round up the needed 218 votes for Democrats' health
care bills.

Mark Hemingway - Tonight's big loser is the Washington
Post<http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/blogs/beltway-confidential/Tonights-big-loser-is-washington-post-69024057.html>

But with McDonnell's resounding victory tonight, perhaps the Post with think
twice about putting it's credibility on the line before they decide to
become the opposition research arm of Virginia Democrats. But don't bet on
it.

Byron York - In Virginia and New Jersey, negative attacks were
losers<http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/blogs/beltway-confidential/In-Virginia-and-New-Jersey-negative-attacks-were-losers-69063407.html>

One key similarity in the Republican victories in Virginia and New Jersey is
that in each case the candidate who was perceived as running the more
negative campaign lost. When exit pollsters in both states asked voters
whether one candidate had attacked the other unfairly during the campaign,
the results are striking.

In Virginia, 65 percent of all voters said Democrat Creigh Deeds attacked
Republican Bob McDonnell unfairly, while 51 percent said McDonnell attacked
Deeds unfairly. (Part of the electorate believed both sides launched unfair
attacks on the other.) Just 26 percent of voters said Deeds did not attack
unfairly, while 40 percent said McDonnell did not make unfair attacks.

David Freddoso - Deeds proves you can't win by insulting voters'
intelligence<http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/blogs/beltway-confidential/McDonnell-wins-69007657.html>

Perhaps voters are upset with Obama, but Creigh Deeds earned opprobrium all
on his own this year. It's no surprise that he is being thrashed tonight all
across the state.

Mark Tapscott - Nothing purple about Virginia
now<http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/blogs/beltway-confidential/Nothing-purple-about-Virginia-now-69020712.html>

What a difference one year makes! Or more precisely, what a difference is
made by a $787 billion economic stimulus package, a complete government
take-over of the one-sixth of the economy represented by the health care
system, and a world apology tour in which an American president repeatedly
confessed the nation's alleged international sins.

J.P. Freire - White House bails out J. Crew's fashion
czar<http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/blogs/beltway-confidential/White-House-bails-out-J-Crews-fashion-czar-68952747.html>

Jenna Lyons, creative director of J. Crew, oversaw the creation of various
outfits worn by the ladies of the first family. For her efforts, she got a
one-time cash bonus of $1 million.
