Imagining the Response

In The Real Lincoln, Tom DiLorenzo recounts how President John Tyler was burned in effigy in front of the White House (by fellow Whigs because he vetoed Henry Clay’s bill to establish a central bank). Can you imagine the response if the Untouchable One (be it Obama, Bush, or any of the others) were burned in effigy (let alone if a fire were set within a mile of the White House)? Although Tyler was in the right (not only economically and morally right the reason for his veto was because he believed it was unconstitutional…Can you imagine that??), it is illustrative of a healthier view of the POTUS as a fallible man.
