Anwar Al Awlaki is an admitted Al Qaida recruiter who has called for the murder of Americans in the name of jihad. He was instrumental in inspiring the mass-murder at Fort Hood by Major Nidal Malik Hassan.
The U.S. military has not killed Awlaki because he is a U.S. citizen: "White House lawyers are mulling the legality of proposed attempts to kill an American citizen, Anwar al Awlaki, who is believed to be part of the leadership of the al Qaeda group in Yemen behind a series of terror strikes, according to two people briefed by U.S. intelligence officials.
