WHITTIER (YBH.ME <http://yesbuthowever.com/>) – La Voz de Aztlan, the
Southern California-based secessionist “Chicano news service” that traffics
in anti-Semitism, anti-Catholicism and homophobia, and which advocates the
“ethnic cleansing” of non-Latinos from the American Southwest, has posted a
thinly-veiled violent threat on its website, aimed at U.S. border guards.

The website posting centers around the recent shooting death of 15-year-old
Mexican citizen Sergio Adrian Hernandez Huereka. Huereka (whose last name
has also been reported as “Heureka” and “Güereca”) was shot June 7th by a
U.S. Border Patrol agent during an altercation at the Ciudad Juarez, Mexico,
and El Paso, Texas border. Although the circumstances surrounding the
shooting are not totally clear, what is known is that Border Patrol agents
on bicycles were pelted with rocks while trying to apprehend several Mexican
migrants who were attempting to cross illegally into El Paso. The
confrontation escalated to the point where one of the agents discharged his
weapon at the rock-throwers. The shooting led to a brief cross-border
standoff during which Mexican security forces pointed their weapons at the
Border Patrol agents, threatening to kill them if they crossed the border.

The incident has drawn angry responses from high-ranking Mexican officials,
including Mexican President Felipe Calderon.

A June 10th Voz de Aztlan website post about the shooting reads in part:

*“The video (of the incident) has been shown widely in the Mexican media and
has added more outrage against ‘los gringos’….This murder incident is just
one of many that have occurred on the border involving racist and trigger
happy US Border Patrol agents, especially after the passage of the
anti-Mexican SB1070 in Arizona….Many (Border Patrol agents) are White
supremacist gringos that hate Mexicans. It is not going to be safe for these
agents after this incident. They are going to have to watch their backs more
carefully. In the future, they may have to deal with ‘snipers with real
bullets’ instead of rock throwers.”*

Structurally, this ominous threat bears a resemblance to the one issued by a
New York-based Muslim extremist website (RevolutionMuslim.com) that targeted
“South Park” creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker in April. That threat was
“predictive” rather than direct, straddling the line between legality and a
criminal act (the threat read, “We have to warn Matt and Trey that what they
are doing is stupid and they will probably wind up like Theo Van Gogh for
airing this show. This is not a threat, but a warning of the reality of what
will likely happen to them”).

Because of the generalized, “prophetic” nature of the “South Park” threat,
the NYPD and the FBI declined to treat it as a criminal offense. It’s very
likely that by following the same formula, Voz de Aztlan might similarly
skirt any legal repercussions. However, whereas the threat against South
Park was an isolated occurrence, U.S. Border Patrol agents face the very
real possibility of violence on a daily basis, violence which has, in the
past, included incidents of agents being shot at from both sides of the
border.

It would seem prudent for the Border Patrol to take threats like the one
from Voz de Aztlan seriously.

La Voz de Aztlan may be a fairly small organization, but it does have an
audience. Its Youtube page, which includes videos mocking the Holocaust and
spreading the vicious lie that Israeli soldiers murdered Haitians and stole
their organs during Israel’s much-praised earthquake relief efforts in
Haiti, receives thousands of views. And only two months ago, Voz de Aztlan
followers nearly crashed the website of the Cal State Long Beach newspaper
with a massive volley of comment
postings<http://blogs.ocweekly.com/navelgazing/the-hilarious-haters/jew-bashing-gay-trashing-la-vo/>containing
anti-gay slurs.

The Voz de Aztlan website promotes a Spanish-language translation of “The
Protocols of the Elders of Zion,” the notorious anti-Semitic tract that was
a Nazi propaganda favorite, and Voz de Aztlan publisher Hector Carreon, who
has referred to Osama bin Laden as the modern heir to the legacy of Robin
Hood and Pancho Villa, recently expressed his belief that Jews created the
swine flu virus to specifically exterminate Latinos.
