The GOP Has No Plan. 2011 to 2012: 2 YEARS PROVING THE GOP HAS NO PLANS FOR ECONOMIC RECOVERY Gary AterNovember 02, 2010 American´s will see in the next two years that the Republicans are very vindictive, and they are not "here to save the day". ..."Tan-Man" John Boehner. God hepl us if he becomes the House Speaker In the early days of the Great Depression, after two years under FDR, the unemployment rate had declined from a catastrophic 23.6% to a still disastrous 21.7%. And due to the current 9.3% unemployment problem, the anticipated gains by the GOP in the latest mid-term elections more than confirms the fact that the stimulus package was probably way too small and too late in its implementation. As was stated in a recent Washington Post op-ed column by: Matt Miller, "President Obama's big political mistake was stopping the Recession from turning into a Depression. The economy Obama inherited and has tried imperfectly to fix is now 'not' so deep a calamity that everyone feels impelled to rally around their president. Instead, it's just awful enough for everyone to feel Obama has failed." And regarding America´s "jobs, jobs, jobs", it is currently seen as a failure even though it took the many years of Republican mismanagement (as it did for FDR) to get to the current negative level. As some pundits have accurately stated, "Those Americans receiving their last unemployment check don´t really care that it took years for the Republicans to send their jobs off-shore or to Mexico. Either way, these Americans are still upset and they remain out of work." As with most mid-term elections, after two previous elections that provided the Democrats with major gains, and some of those gains came in regions where they normally would not have occurred. In these cases, there will always be an electoral adjustment. The problem is, this time around, the timing is all wrong and this won´t be a normal "leveling-off" adjustment. This time around, with the help of the US Supreme Court's, Citizens-United case, and the billions of anonymous dollars spent by corporate America on political ads with bogus and inaccurate statements, these very mad and devastated American citizens are now set to attack the wrong political party. As Mr. Miller also stated: "The American people in their wisdom are about to punish a party they're furious with by giving more power to a party they can't stand. Talk about a pathetic set of options." Now, it has been shown for years that the Republican party, going back to the 1920´s, has never been interested in providing a real, comprehensive plan for governing. And this time, their obvious arrogance is so blatant, they are even admitting out-loud that: (1) They have no clue about any cures for the country´s problems. (2) They are against everything that the other party offers, even when it is against what is good for them, the country and everyone but the corporations and the ultra rich. (3) And they want to devastate all working Americans by getting rid of Social Security, the Department of Education, Unemployment Insurance and the new Obama healthcare plan. In other words, they want the power back so that they can resume the havoc on the American middle-class that they didn´t quite finish through the previous Bush eight-year debacle. But the Democrats and the American progressives on the other hand, continue to epitomize the well-known cliché about putting any three liberals in a room and they will never agree on anything. As it has been noted many times, the GOP is always well organized when it comes to operating in lock-step and when every conservative follower is expected to stick with the Republican "talking points". The Democrats however, are then usually very wishy-washy in their lack of an ability for focusing together on communicating their plans and their ideas. In other words, the Republicans will consistently follow the pied piper right of the cliff without asking a single question, while the Democrats will wander around in the desert, just trying to find the cliff. Things are so crazy today, one Democratic analyst recently said, "If only they'd have let the banks and Detroit totally collapse, we could then blame Bush for the whole thing and we'd be sitting pretty today." So, why is this the situation occurring now after almost 2 years under an Obama administration? Well, there are a multitude of answers, such as still being in two unnecessary wars, a totally corrupt past Republican administration, and years of their spending like drunken sailors with no attention being paid for how to pay for their financial excesses. And let´s not forget their unreasonable de-regulations, their blatant increase in overall government and the loss of personal freedoms due to the implementation of the Patriot Act. But again I ask; Why now? One reason is that many of those suffering today do not understand why nothing was done by the new administration to investigate and potentially punish those that took the country into two expensive foreign wars. And these wars were both too expensive in tax-payer fortunes and American and Iraqi/Afghani lives. Another issue is that not one single Wall Street executive or major US banker has gone to jail. Instead, they have all walked away rich, while sometimes destroying his or her firm and helping wreck the US economy. And all of this while leaving taxpayers with the final bill. They haven´t even been forced to give back any of their ill-gotten gains. And despite the so called "reform of Wall Street" it is still free to operate like a Las Vegas casino, with its Mafia-like managers and owners. The key is, with the current attitude of the Republicans to un-do everything positive that the Democrats have done while going back to the mess that was the Bush administration, most likely the next two years are going to be very difficult to maneuver. And remember, the race for the 2012 elections begins the day after the mid-term elections. From everything I´ve been hearing and seeing, it´s going to be a very ugly next two years.
