There is much intersting stuff here.  To start:

"The US Supreme Court ruled in its decision on the Pentagon Papers
that The New York Times was fully within its rights to reveal
atrocities committed by the US in the Vietnam war, after whistleblower
Daniel Ellsberg broke with the Nixon administration and went public
with the secret documents."

That ruling however, did not affect the charges against Daniel
Ellsberg.  If not for his case being tossed on its ear for, "Gross
government misconduct", he'd still be in jail now.

That is Private Manning's plight, and he's screwed.

I need to think of the others, such as:

Assange can't claim 1st Amendment press protections, since he is
Australian.  The same reason we can't charge him with treason.

and

Does espionage REALLY only apply to government employees?
