I watched it and as usual David Mayer was an interesting speaker. He used
to talk every year at the Objectivist Center summer seminars and now the
Atlas Society summer seminars. Unfortunately, he does not like to travel by
air and about half the summer seminars are on the Left Coast, so he now
talks only every other year.

The broad sense of freedom of contract that he holds is what I call Freedom
of Association, of which freedom of contract is a subset to me. But he makes
it clear that contract had a much broader range in meaning long ago, so
freedom of association and freedom of contract are really pretty similar. I
have written about the freedom of association a number of times, this being
one instance:
http://objectivistindividualist.blogspot.com/2010/11/right-to-association-with-others-right.html<http://www.linkedin.com/e/-9f4mfw-gj3ves8p-2u/plh/http%3A%2F%2Fobjectivistindividualist%2Eblogspot%2Ecom%2F2010%2F11%2Fright-to-association-with-others-right%2Ehtml/o1Yy/>

In the Q&A he said that we all have the freedom of medical services or
health care in the sense that we have the freedom to make individual
contracts with others to provide for our health care. This assertion of the
right to health care should be contrasted with the claim of the socialist
left that some people have the right to force others to give them health
care. David Mayer says the loss of our right to health care is the essential
reason for opposing ObamaCare and calling for its repeal. I made this same
argument some time again on my blog at
http://objectivistindividualist.blogspot.com/p/right-to-health-care.html<http://www.linkedin.com/e/-9f4mfw-gj3ves8p-2u/plh/http%3A%2F%2Fobjectivistindividualist%2Eblogspot%2Ecom%2Fp%2Fright-to-health-care%2Ehtml/Eeys/>

I am ordering David Mayer's book The Liberty of Contract tonight. I am
certain is very good and that the freedom he is trying to promote, with the
help of the CATO Institute is very critical. You can order the book at the
CATO Institute website. They are the publisher. It came out today, but is
available in either hardcover or paperback forms.
