*ARC presents a new debate series in New York*

The Ayn Rand Center is excited to announce a new series of debates,
beginning Thursday, March 10, between Yaron Brook, president of the Ayn Rand
Institute, and Miles Rapoport, president of Demos and former Secretary of
the State of Connecticut. These debates are the first events to be arranged
by the newly-formed New York Chapter of the Ayn Rand Institute. The New York
Chapter was established to assist ARI in its mission by raising ARI's
profile in the New York area.

These unique debates represent the first time in more than twenty years that
ARI has had the opportunity to participate in high-profile debates about
fundamental questions on the nature and proper function of government, the
nature of freedom, and the moral status of capitalism.

The financial crisis of 2008 and its aftermath have prompted many Americans
to reexamine the basic direction in which they want this country to head. A
great divide has emerged. One side says that a free market out of control
led to the worst downturn since the Great Depression, and calls for
government to foster more equitable prosperity. The other side says that
government has grown too big and too intrusive, and calls for America to
rediscover its roots of limited government and free-market capitalism.

Moderated by WNYC's Brian Lehrer, this unique debate series will examine
this divide and the social, economic, and moral beliefs that underlie
politics in America today.

The first of these debates takes place *March 10, 2011*, at NYU's Skirball
Center.

*First Debate
Government: What is its proper role?*

The size and scope of government has become one of the most contested issues
in American politics. What is government's proper role? Should it focus on
protecting individual rights and free markets? Or on promoting equality and
solving society's problems?
