U.S. Lies: Vietnam and Libya
Posted by Michael S. Rozeff on April 25, 2011 04:51 PM

This evening’s news carries a U.S. government lie that is so contrary to the facts that I wonder how the U.S. government maintains any credibility at all. One typical article that reports today’s new bombing of the Gaddafi compound is here. We then have the White house saying “It is certainly not the policy of the coalition, of this administration, to decapitate, or to effect regime change in Libya by force.” They bomb his home and his compound. They blow up multi-story buildings where he holds meetings. They bomb Gaddafi’s armed forces at will, so as to aid the rebels. Obama talks openly of putting even more pressure on Gaddafi so that he’ll leave, and the White House says it isn’t using force to create regime change. This reminds me of the lies during the Vietnam War.

The history of the U.S. for decades is a history of changing regimes with force and other means. This includes Iran, Guatemala, Indonesia, Zaire, Chile, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Libya is no different. The lying is also no different. For a quick tour of only a few of the larger lies associated with the Vietnam War, see here. The smaller lies concerning the battles and the course of that war were a daily occurrence on American television.

Michael:  You have to cut the U.S. news media some slack, here.  If they weren’t so heavily involved with propagating “U.S. Government lies so contrary to the facts,” how would they ever qualify for Pulitzer prizes?  We can’t have the media being wasteful when it comes to factual reporting.  Mark Twain advised us that “truth is the most valuable thing we have. Let us economize it.”
