Posted this morning at Electric Politics, a podcast interview with Steven Kleinman, a veteran military intelligence officer and one of America's top interrogators, on the subject of torture and other methods of interrogation.
It would be nice if the debate over whether to use torture -- or "enhanced interrogation" -- could be framed in moral terms. Manifestly, given events of the past decade, it can't. But Americans have a tradition of being a practical people and seem to respond (if grudgingly) to practical arguments: in this case, that torture simply doesn't work. It's a complicated subject. If you feel strongly about it, it's always good to have the factual, logical arguments on your side for those occasions when they might make a difference.
