Taxation: crack cocaine of the ruling class

After 11 years of dithering, our kinder gentler neighbors to the north decided to set up a Chinese national for torture and execution.
A Canadian court cleared the way earlier this month to extradite him back to China. After all, the Communist Thugocracy promised they wouldn't torture or kill him, even though his brother and his accountant both died in prison, so where's the worry?
What was Lai Changxing's crime that made him, as the MSNBC article's headline called him, "China's most wanted fugitive"?
Not paying taxes.
Specifically, Lai is accused of bribing Chinese officials to avoid paying taxes and duties on "everything from fuel to cigarettes that were shipped into China's southeastern Fujian province."
Smuggling, as libertarians will remind you, is the act of supplying people with things they're voluntarily willing to pay for when the ruling class says they can't, making it a victimless "crime." Taxes, on the other hand, are the bribes people must pay to their own ruling class so they can perform those activities without having them called "crimes."
Lai admitted to the victimless crime of avoiding taxes "by taking advantage of loopholes in the law" but denied the bribery charges. That is, he admits failing to pay the legalized bribes to the government but denies paying illegal bribes directly to the government's functionaries.
Libertarians aren't surprised that the Canadian government decided to treat Lai as "a common criminal fugitive from the Chinese justice system" rather than as a political fugitive because…
He didn't pay his taxes!
To the ruling class, all ruling classes everywhere, that makes Lai worse than a rapist, murderer, torturer, child molester and puppy killer combined.
"Let them protest all they want, as long as they pay their taxes." – Ronald Reagan’s Secretary of State Alexander Haig, responding to street demonstrations in New York City, 1982.
In every time and in every country the ruling class forcibly extracts what it wants from its domestic livestock: eggs from chickens, milk from cows, wool from sheep, honey from bees and taxes from humans.
If you think that as a human being you're not domestic livestock to the sociopathic minds of the ruling class you're naïvely misinformed.
Lai Changxing made the mistake of withholding taxes from the people hideously and hopelessly addicted to them.
He's screwed.
