I think this is all about DIRECTION.

It seems that the Republicans (establishment) want to maintain the status quo by either 'kicking the can' down the road OR tweaking what already exists. In the RARE case that they put forth an alleged solution (see Bush's SS overhaul) it actually constructs ANOTHER bureaucracy and 'trough' from which to eat. The idea of ANOTHER 'Gold Commission (likely stacked with the same ANTI-Gold people that the Reagan version saw) and similar 'bones' are feigned attempts to get MORE supporters -- specifically the Paul contingent. I doubt there is much more to them than lip service.

Paul and those who join(ed) him want to END these things that are detrimental to liberty and freedom. Their proposals seek to 'help' those who have become victim to these programs, but ultimately seek to abolish them. THAT is what this country needs. THAT is consistent with the (libertarian) rhetoric the Republicans have employed for decades.

THAT is the major difference (without considering the 'fuck you' approach toward them) and why it is difficult for Paul supporters to 'hop on' to the Republican Band Wagon.

ADDITIONALLY, many observed PREVIOUS 'promises' like the Republican Revolution of 1996 ... and note the NON-results ... the FAILURES to deliver. Some even recognize that had the Republicans -- even just going back to the Revolution -- actually cut and gut ... that we would not know who Barack Obama is ... other than just another Senator from Illinois.

We need MORE efforts that will ultimately lessen/eliminate the burden on those FORCED to 'pay' for the stupid programs of their grandparents. The (establishment) GOP simply wants to wield power, maintain that power and make themselves and those who aid their efforts 'rich' off the taxpayer's dime. [Note that this is NOT to suggest that the Ds want differently ... the Ds are not the issue HERE]
