Scientists have already created diamonds that are 50% harder than natural diamonds... and it doesn't take billions of years in the making, but hours or days. But that's not the big story, the big story is that they're working on diamonds that can be in any shape. Even flexible strands.
Why is this important? Because they are electrical conductors and can replace semi-conductors like silicon. Not only would a diamond operate a computer 3 times faster than silicon could, but it would be 10 times more resistant to heat and last far longer. Silicon would literally melt, while diamond would be totally unaffected. Cell phones, computers, virtually any electronic device would benefit from diamond semi conductors. But that's not all... oh no... not nearly... the uses are endless. Imagine having scratch proof paint or coatings. Automobile-aircraft-marine parts that never wear out. Glass so clear as to be optically transparent, so hard and durable that it never breaks or scratches and can withstand pressures much deeper than the oceans.
