I knew the apology was forthcoming ... I also KNEW it would include a fallacy spew.

There is/was no fiscal cliff.

"First of all, let’s be clear why I am singling out the Republicans. It is Republicans that talk about cutting taxes, not Democrats. It is Republicans that talk about limiting government, not Democrats. It is Republicans that talk about smaller government, not Democrats. It is Republicans that talk about getting the government out of our lives, not Democrats. This doesn’t mean that Republicans really believe any of these things, but they are the ones talking about them, not Democrats."  -- Lawrence Vance

Please take note of the cut and paste articles from partisan hacks today to the group.

There are no less than ten articles, predominately by one member, all criticizing the Republican Party for somehow failing to support this Nation going over the proverbial "Fiscal Cliff".  Nowhere does this member ever criticize Democrats or the socialistic policies of the Obama Administration.   Nowhere does this member ever really analyize what happened, but instead posts cut and paste left of center talking points and rhetoric which are basically a distortion of what really happened.

To review:

  • The House of Representatives in an eleventh hour deal, approved a bipartisan Senate deal to avert the "fiscal cliff" and preserve Bush-era tax cuts for all Americans making less than $400,000 per year.

  • The majority of the Republicans in the House voted against the fiscal cliff deal. About twice as many Democrats voted in favor of the deal:  151 Republicans and 16 DemocratsVoted "Nay";  172 Democrats carried the vote along with 85 Republicans.

  • Both Boehner and Paul Ryan voted "Yea";  while Eric Cantor, (the No. 2 Republican in the House) voted "Nay"....Just as important, the move could still cost John Boehner  his seat;   all eyes are on whether  Boehner can survive as speaker when a vote is taken in the House in the upcoming weeks.
What the Democrats and our left of center partisan hack here in PF don't really want to discuss, is what would have happened had this bill not passed:

  • Tax rates would have soared, (and for the majority of Americans, their income tax will go up,  approximately $700.00 to $1000.00 annually, depending on who you talk to)

  • The markets would have sunk, possibly to new lows.....Instead, investors were able to take a moment and catch their breath. Relief was clearly evident in this morning’s market. Stocks opened sharply higher. The Dow Jones industrial average climbed 1.4% to 13,286.18—a triple-digit gain of 182 points. The Nasdaq composite rose 2.6% to 3,086.46, and the S&P 500 added 1.9% to 1,452.81.  (16:30 ET 01.02.2013)

  • Without the bill passing, there would have been mandatory spending cuts, but there would have been relatively little to no affect on government agencies, as the government would have avoided any mandatory cut backs for at least 30 days.

The deal, which President Obama will no doubt rush to sign, and is already claiming a victory over, still has a lot of "unfinished business (for lack of a better term)  which is still left on the table. The most glaring issue(s) still not addressed, is the debt ceiling. Rest assured, there will be a protracted and bitter showdown that will likely include pitched battles over entitlements and taxes......Again, no mention of this by our most esteemed Group Partisan Hack.
