I thought driving was a privilege, not a right.

This isn't immigration "reform."  What we need is immigration enforcement.  Who
is here?  Where, why, when and what for?  What form of identification would be
acceptable to prove identification in D.C.?  How many forms of I.D. can people
with multiple last names (first last name & second last name) or hyphenated
last names obtain?  What kind of documentation, or bribery, is needed to get a
"matricula consular," the identification card issued by a Mexican (or any other
country) consulate?

"...the standards for issuing matricula consular cards are so lax that the
cards have no legitimate security function.  No major bank in Mexico will
accept the card as a form of ID when someone opens a simple bank account, and
two-thirds of the states of Mexico will not recognize it as valid[v].  I
personally saw a matricula consular card that listed the birthplace of its
bearer as "Hidalgo, Michigan."  A place called Hidalgo does not exist in the
state of Michigan and never has."     [Why would someone claiming to have been
born in Michigan need a matricula consular card?]

Mayor Gray to Announce New Bill to Allow Driver’s Licenses and IDs for All
District Residents

This Thursday, May 2, 2013, Mayor Vincent Gray and other District leaders will
be unveiling a historic new piece of legislation.  The Mayor will be proposing
a trailblazing bill that would allow all eligible District residents the right
to obtain a driver’s license or DC identification card, regardless of
citizenship or immigration status.

Please come and voice your support, to stand united with the thousands of
undocumented residents here in the District of Columbia.

If the Mayor’s bill becomes a law, our One City will stand as a leader in
immigration reform.  This legislation would be a monumental step to protect the
civil rights of the many undocumented residents who live and actively
contribute to the District of Columbia.
