AlterNet Attacks “Right-Wing” Version of Constitution
Tom Woods
I don’t have time to reply to this. I don’t even have time to read it. But having been around the block a few times, I can guarantee you this: in the entire article there will be not one word about the ratifying conventions, where Madison says one needs to go to understand the Constitution’s meaning. Not one word. And no wonder: at those ratifying conventions we read one assurance after another that the new government will have only the powers “expressly delegated” to it, which is precisely what the “right-wingers” are saying.
The Left should just give up on the Constitution. That’s what they did when they had to start pretending it was a “living, breathing document.” That was an admission of defeat. If the Constitution said what the Left wanted it to say, they would be insisting on its strict interpretation. The fact that leftists instead spend their time assuring us that its meaning has evolved, that we can’t live in the past, that the Constitution has to get with the times, proves that they realize the original text is not compatible with their various schemes.
The information necessary to refute these inane articles is available for free.
