I woke up to the overnight news that an* 88-year-old World War II veteran,
Delbert Belton*, was beaten to death by two "teens" in Spokane, Washington.
The news had a picture of the victim, showing he's white.

My first thought was: Betcha the two thugs are black.
*But the CBS early morning news didn't give their racial identity nor
showed their pics -- despite the fact that Spokane police had already
described the suspects as "young African American males," and despite the
fact that the local TV station in Spokane, KHQ, had already released
surveillance photos of the two BLACK suspects YESTERDAY, Aug. 22, 2013.*

on August 21, 2013 around 8:15pm, Spokane Police responded to Eagles
Lodge, 6410 N Lidgerwood on a call of an assault. When officers responded
they located a 88 year-old man, Delbert Belton, in his car with serious
injuries to his head. Belton was rushed to the hospital where he was placed
in the intensive care unit but later died.
Family and friends of Delbert Belton said he was "full of life" at
88-years-old. He loved working on cars and helping out others. Belton, a
former employee at Kaiser Aluminum in Spokane Valley, had served overseas
in the military in WWII and was wounded in Okinawa.
Spokane police have not said if or what the motive was for the beating, but
insist this was a "random attack". *[By that the police mean they've
already divined the attack wasn't a racially-motivated "hate crime" -- as
police had insisted in every case of black-on-white crime I've posted on

Police say Belton was assaulted by two "teens," who are described by
witnesses as "*young African American males* of average build." Police say
the two suspects are 16-19 in age, black males and both wearing black
clothing. One of the "teens" was wearing a black "Do-Rag".
On Aug. 22, 2013, Spokane Police released surveillance photos of two
persons of interest in the homicide of Delbert Belton.
