Applied with a few changes
o trailing whitespace removed [1]
o your email address looked bogus so I fixed that too. Suggest
that you edit ~/.gitconfig or set the environment variables
o the commit message doesn't follow what is normally used so I
fixed that. FWIW, I just added a HACKING file that explains what
it should look like, see
