"And there is some question about that," Alex added.  She didn't like this woman.  She reminded Alex of something, but she wasn't sure what.

Derek nodded, remembering the card and grinning "True.  They might be... busy for a bit.  But I'm sure they'll make a token appearance at the function before dodging off somewhere as per usual.  They're there when we need them and that's what counts."

He was talking about more than just the function but was sure only Alex got that part, considering she knew the two as well if not better than he did.

A family.

"So," he put the now empty mug down on the table and sat back with a curious expression "What has you so intrigued with this little get together to volunteer to help?"

And family looked after each other.  Either this woman truly volunteered or, after his little talk with Sloan the other night - something he remembered most of - Sloan sent her to take a peek around.  Whichever the reason, it was obvious Anya Sherridan was more than must a helpful hand; her own reasons or someone else's being the reason behind her appearance here was yet to be determined.

He made a note to give ol' Sloan a call but for now, he settled in casually and arched one brow, expression showing his interest in her coming response.
