That's interesting and useful.  Never had a problem at 9996, but I've
taken the view that if it's worse than 500ppm I'll send it back.

To clariify: with "reset" I mean that ntpd just set the time and tried to synchronise with an NTP server again. So the reach register never got past 3 or 7. With this motherboard I also dropped out of the NTP pool. When my clock is that bad, I'd rather not have people syncing off it.
But with setting the tick and freq accordingly it syncs ok.
