Presumably downloads/uploads of large files might cause significant
buffering, do you know of any attempts to use traffic shaping, for
example, to minimize the effects caused by this kind of issue? We use
our Internet connections for overnight remote backup of terabytes of
data, and the backup jobs can take many hours. I'm now wondering if
it might be better to prevent ntpd from using the connections during
the backup periods so that its idea of the 'right time' isn't thrown
off by changing network delay characteristics.
