Actually the Net does know about countries and political borders. Choosing servers from a pool by TLD is just a rough approximation. Several NTP servers in the ambient countries are closer* to me than some inland ones. This is due to network topology. So don't care with domain names. * Fewer hops, lower RTT, smaller jitter.
