Sure, but unsolicited "research" is not appreciated by lots of network 
operators.
In this case of course it is just the probing of a service that is already 
advertised to be available,
but as the operator of a router between the internet and a large subnet of slow 
links, I have a long
blocklist to block the packets from many of those research projects and search 
machines.
(sent to all addresses in the subnet, in sequential or random order, sometimes 
at quite high rates,
and usually ignoring any request to stop)
