hello NTP enthusiasts,

this is a forwarded email of a response from a mayor home router manufacturer in Germany that makes the popular Fritzbox routers, somehow the device is able to detect latencies on the first hop in both send and receive directions, however it is not able to compensate for them (which would in my opinion be possible by delaying the send time by the difference in the send / receive latencies). Considering the statistics of my NTP server here http://www.pool.ntp.org/scores/2001:980:59fb:1:250:c2ff:fed3:fd36 it seems that indeed the asymmetric latency caused by my line causes the average offset of about 11 ms . Anyway the manufacturer has promised to look into it and hopefully will allow for a configuration option to correct for the differences in a future
firmware update.

Dear Mr. ten Napel,

Thank you very much for your enquiry and for contacting the AVM Support.

The values described by you cannot be configured or edited by the user manually. They are negotiated or simply detected by the FRITZ!Box.

However, I have forwarded your enquiry as an enhancement request to our product manager.

We always focus on our customers' wishes and needs when further developing our products. In the past we were able to implement numerous suggestions from our customers, often even in the following update.

In the future you can also use our feedback form <https://en.avm.de/contact/suggestions-for-fritz-products> to send us constructive ideas and suggestions for enhancing FRITZ! products.

Best regards from Berlin
Michael Ellguth (AVM Support)

On the DSL information page there is a different latency reported for the send (3 ms) and receive (14 ms) directions, this is bad for NTP (either running na time server or receiving time updates from the internet), since the Fritzbox is capable of detecting these latencies (how?) is it possible to compensate for it? That would be a nice feature.
