Have we not been to our list web site, lately? <g>
http://pop3.ashlists.org/
As you can see, I only list 5 POP3 services as "recommended" and one of
those has been down for the past week or so.
I have links on the page to sites that keep track of free pop3
services. I am partial to the "Free E-Mail Directory" site, but the
"Free Email Providers Guide (fepg), is also a popular site to search
for free, remote pop3 services.
Service quality tends to vary for the services -- even the best. They
tend to have their good times and their bad times. At the time we
started the POP3 mailing list, the MailandNews.com service was pretty
horrid. At this time, however, I think it is the best we have going
for us. In past four months, it has given us less trouble than any
other service. Operamail has been doing fairly well, itself.
Opinions vary as to the better services, but at least on a discussion
mailing list such as ours, we can trade ideas on the services and from
that we would be in better position to make a more informed decision
than from just visiting web sites that only listed the services.
Furthermore, we are fans of these services. We collect them like
hobbyists. So for most of us, it does not come down to choosing the
best. We take a little of everything we want and lot of that which we
come to like. :-)
