Thanks to Alan, Brian and all and those who gave me a hand off-list in
trying to make sense of this 'rum' outfit. If I ever get around to setting
up a website, it will not be with these folks, despite the allure of their
palm tree logo.
One of the things that I did at the outset was to do a tracer route on
Crosswinds which led me to a destination in New York City. However, a
single line in one of the help forums:
"In any case, the only address is [EMAIL PROTECTED] and mail to that
address goes to Canada."
"Oh the horror!"
The logical next step for any obsessive-compulsive seemed to be a 'whois',
which I had never attempted before. However, with my starry-eyed faith in
Google, I found a site that delivered the goods, so to speak and much to my
chagrin Tony, and the boys at Crosswinds appear to be located in Toronto,
Ontario, the home of exceedingly few palm trees.
(In a totally irrelevant aside, I'd like to point out that 20,000 odd years
ago there were palm trees along the New Brunswick coast, based on leaf
fossils found in the region. This was presumably before the last ice age
when the Gulf Stream did not swing out to the Atlantic and onward to the
British Isles but flowed into the Bay of Fundy.)
Do forgive the digression but I'm a bit punchy.
The 'whois' information is below and before you even glance at it, I want
to fervently deny any connection with the "Holmes" boys, who appear to be
running, but not very well, Crosswinds.net.

I did a further tracer route and discovered that the "dot.crosswinds" is
indeed in Toronto but the "ns2.crosswinds" is in New York City. I have one
last question before I wrap this up for the trash.
Why would the mail servers be located in New York while another element
(???) of the service/organization be headquartered in Toronto, home of the
hapless Holmes boys? Is this a common practice or simply yet another
instance of the quirks in this company?
