i think probably everyone is afraid a certain miss michelle antoinette diaz,
popjourno list member, will bite their head off if they say anything. (sorry
michelle, it was either a quick jab, or a lengthy defense, but 'thatgirl',
jennifer can talk about anything she wants to, except, um, talk about boys
like miss katharine pitts did when the list mummy bit her head off, unless of
course she puts a popjourno spin on the subject. that said, i welcome you to
the list, michelle, and hope you might post something about yourself).
i am expectantly waiting for 'why i want to be a new yorker' to be
followed up by: 'why i want to be a helsinkian', or something like that.
i miss: letters from elspeth (what a pretty name); reports from the marine
research fans; jenipop's wry interjections (she happens to be alive and well
living in enid, oklahoma 150 miles west of me, working in a coffee shop
there) not a peep from little shirleybeans; lisa brandt must be in europe
still~ i worry that jonathan takagi and mr. george killgoar III might have
been abducted by anti-cultural forces at their respective institutions. i am
distraught that we have two members living in providence, rhode island and
never hear a word about the scene there. i myself have been too lazy to
write reviews of the looper/flaming lips, quickspace/yo la tengo, and cat
power/ sean na na shows i have seen recently, though they were all awesome.
artists we used to talk about that i don't hear a thing about anymore
include: stina nordenstam, julie doiron, rose melberg, dot allison, (on the
other hand i think we really did the nick drake, and the elliot smith thing),
uh, no one ever wrote and said they had actually received their mix tape, or
liked it~
it confounds me that south by south west in austin, texas, concluded
without a single report on any of the more than 1000 bands that played there,
i so much wanted to go, but it didn't come together. i was fascinated by
names of bands like; mini crab, and pineforest crunch. daneekia and
katharine, our texas correspondents must be too busy talking about bo- i mean
studying calculus~
i asked what i thought was a perfect question to go around the list months
back, which was what is the cool radio station each list member listens to in
their area, and/or favorite internet station, and i think i got, like one
response. i would still love to know.
it would be nice; to hear from chity, in spain, andrea troolin, at grimsey
records in minneapolis, giddy over london (the other alex), and from marta
escolar in mexico~
i wondered recently if perhaps it would help if we made a recruiting
drive, that more total membership might generate a steady flow of discussion~
though i mention several names in this post, there are many more i would like
to see on emails marked popjourno, and one more thing, a year ago, when we
brand new, when ever a new person joined, they wrote an introduction about
themselves. i have noticed a long steady increase in our population in
recent months, but no corresponding letter of intro. this ties in with my
thinking we should really try and get the complete archives up loaded onto
the site.
these are some of my thoughts of this weekend of the first sunday after
the first full moon following the equinox. i hope everyone gets a chance to
hunt for easter eggs.
it is dawn here in the prairies of eastern oklahoma, the iris are in full
bloom, and the pale light green of early spring is giving way to the emerald
of may and june.

love to all from curtis andrew beckwith, in tulsa
