Did a (pirate) radio show last night light w/ a few friends. It's great
because I live two blocks away and I can set it up to tape and have two
instant mixtapes just by hanging out w/ friends. Of course you get 4
people in this cramped little room it becomes kinda hectic, especially
when they're all yelling for stuff.. Highlights (if you're really bored):
a last second Curtis Mayfield request where he just shouts out racial
slurs before the song begins (wasn't expecting that..so much for my nice
pop mixtape:), zombies "Beechwood Park", discussions about playing music
w/ friends w/o regard to musical ability vs. playing w/ better musicians
who're strangers, the zumpano 7" w/ the fire truck on it (?) where he
almost sounds like Stevie Wonder, the field mice's "Before the First Kiss"
which seemed to depress everyone leaving *so* much akward silence in the
studio:), midnight at the oasis, my segueing the beatles' "Tell Me Why" to
who's "La La La Lies" (through drum beat) to minders' "Now I Can Smile"
(through the identical "la la la la la" melody), discussions about
alcoholic parents and a murderer great grandfather, a comically horrid
black flag song by request, overthrowing a second Paul McCartney cover by
Jellyfish ("let him in" was one too many for me) w/ the shins, a fantastic
song off the "Wonder Boys" soundtrack called "No Regrets" (tom rush?),
gillian welch "Downtown"..blah blah. Fun time..
