For what it's worth, those patches are *not* necessary to get sub-pixel rendering. Hard-coding the font options like that is definitely wrong. But thanks for pointing out the bug report to me---I've just commented there to describe the situation somewhat. And again, as mentioned in the bug report, there are bigger changes than the sub-pixel rendering in the screenshots. They're quite useless for comparing the results of sub-pixel rendering, (in my opinion at least). -Carl
