What surprises me a bit is that in the README.md of the upstream project it says that it depends on "gettext", but our port does not address it. Here is the configure output: checking for msgfmt... /usr/local/bin/msgfmt checking for gmsgfmt... /usr/local/bin/msgfmt checking for xgettext... /usr/local/bin/xgettext checking for msgmerge... /usr/local/bin/msgmerge So i think you need devel/gettext,-tools as build dependency.
