Depending on what types of ports and how many, you many need a couple of dozen GB space on it. The defaults for /usr/src and /usr/obj should be sufficient. I think I usually double them when I have plenty of space, just to future-proof, but that may be being overly cautious. Keep in mind the partition permissions. For some ports, you need wxallowed to build them. By default that's only set for /usr/local. This should be set for /usr/ports partition so that you can build even those that need wxallowed. Here is my own layout on a 4TB drive: a: 2094.1M 532544 4.2BSD 2048 16384 12960 # / b: 65597.9M 4821280 swap # none c: 3815447.1M 0 unused d: 65597.9M 139165760 4.2BSD 2048 16384 12960 # /tmp e: 131132.1M 273510208 4.2BSD 4096 32768 26060 # /var f: 65597.9M 542068800 4.2BSD 2048 16384 12960 # /usr g: 8207.7M 676413248 4.2BSD 2048 16384 12960 # /usr/X11R6 h: 196666.4M 693222592 4.2BSD 4096 32768 26062 # /usr/local i: 260.0M 64 MSDOS j: 8207.7M 1095995328 4.2BSD 2048 16384 12960 # /usr/src k: 16415.4M 1112804672 4.2BSD 2048 16384 12960 # /usr/obj l: 65597.9M 1146423360 4.2BSD 2048 16384 12960 # /usr/ports m: 2621497.3M 1280767872 4.2BSD 8192 65536 52270 # /home Hope this helps!
