I'm running a kernel with drm enabled.
$ dmesg | grep drm
inteldrm0 at vga1
info: [drm] Intel i945GM (unit 0)
info: [drm] AGP at 0xd0000000 256MB
info: [drm] Initialized i915 1.6.0 20080312

        Identifier  "Card0"
        Driver      "intel"
        VendorName  "Intel Corporation"
        BoardName "Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated
Graphics Controller"
        BusID       "PCI:0:2:0"
        Option      "AccelMethod" "EXA"

And with that Option in xorg.conf the weird rendering issue goes away :).
