Installation of mediatomb was flawless and streaming to my PS3 worked
out of the box.
I also looked at this, but abandoned it as it cant stream to xbox 360 :(
Maybe ushare or coherence will work better for you (ports attached),
but neither will work with my Samsung TV :(

Your coherence port has some missing dependencies for it's plugins:
py-gstreamer and id3 library for python. Py-id3 in ports is not supported
by coherence.
