This is much more working than I had imagined, not sure what the problems with splashscreen or locales yet (those inscrutablly mangled C++ undefined symbols are as helpful as usual). Obviously, as Padre's dependencies are quite a bit more than this, so this is definitely a post 4.5 operation. Still, Padre and Wx::* itself seem to merit some attention. Wx seems a lot easier to use in Perl than Gtk2 does, and Padre seems a decent alternative to Eclipse+EPIC and [g]vim+perl support (nvi or mg using Perl hackers, this is probably not going to be for you).
