Theo, do you still use apc-upsd?

apc-upsd (old one which hasn't been touched in a long time) is a
really simple daemon (<1K lines of code) that just supports the
older rs232-only devices.

apcupsd (actively maintained) is a newer daemon which supports
older APCs and many of the newer APC devices, at least via usb/snmp
(note, newer APC devices from the last few years have a different
serial protocol "microlink" (a binary protocol) which afaik is not
supported by open-source software at all, you have to use the USB
port with these (or an add-on card to get partial support).

nut (also actively maintained) works with devices from many
vendors and does support APC, though setup is a bit more complex.
