On my amd64, "make test" fails for me, as it tries to build the GNU makeinfo documentation before running tests. Uses makeinfo option "--css-ref" that was introduced in TexInfo 2006.
Port for GNU TexInfo builds with no trouble, but is renamed to gmakeinfo to avoid shadowing the distribution's /usr/bin/makeinfo. You can specify MAKEINFO="/usr/local/bin/gmakeinfo" make test and it works. I'm working on this again today with a clean -current...
