So I did check and it turns out that the build still requires python in
various places;  not only is python2 used, but the scripts are written
in strict Python 2 code - I've converted/fixed a bunch of them, but that
is a lot of patching for no real gain so far, hence I dropped the idea
for now until upstream has caught up and we can truly just change our
MODPY_VERSION and be done with it.

I just saw jsing committing the change to Python 3, so I'm afraid that
must by reverted.  Sorry for not having sent this reply earlier.
