There is not much you can do, so maybe you want to experiment as follows:
1.  Set the position and size you want for the bar.
2.  Open bar properties>>bars and menus.  Play with own text color, own 
background color to get the color you want.  Use the apply button to see 
different choices without leaving config dialog.
3.  Go to bar tab and play with gradient -- try values between 50 and 150 and 
use the checkbox to see whether you like vertical or horizontal.  Use apply to 
experiment.
4.  Try round bar and then round buttons settings to see if you like that.  
Keep at 4 or less.
5.  Add a shadow.
6.  Go bar to bars and menu tab and play with own press colors and own hover 
color and associated gradients.
