Maybe I'm late to the call, (been on vacation) but the other night my
powerbook G3 A/C adaptor started getting hot and smelling of burnt
electronics. Fried and REALLY HOT black piece of apple plastic!!! Glad it
was on a tile floor, because it left a mark on the tile and if it would have
been on carpet might have been a fire hazard. Anyway, I get back from
vacation last night and start hunting for a replacement when I went to apple
web site.

There is a CPSC recall on powerbook A/C adaptors that have been put out for
the last 2 or 3 years. If you have one of black rectangle types, I suggest
you go to Apple's site where you can check whether yours is recalled or not
and if eligible for the free replacement.
