I just had problems with a bad AC connection in my 5300 and Apple sent me a
box and said drop it in, we'll fix it free of charge.

I expected them to perhaps resolder the connection and send it back as is.

When I opened the box, not only had they replaced the entire logic board (AC
connection attached), but they replaced all the plastics on the 5300 as
well. Looks like a brand new machine. I don't get it since the plastics on
it were already in almost pristine condition (and I had my cute grippy
strips which are now gone) and the machine had been through REA once, but
they replaced them as well.

So kudos on REA, gave my 5300 new life.

What is the deal with Apple & hinges on PowerBooks? Either they end up
being defective and Apple wants to replace the whole dang thing (Wallstreet
& 500), or they will replace it without any hassles (5300/190), or they want
to charge you more than what a new iBook costs to replace the whole Titanium
casing (TiBook). I read that on the 'Book Review on LEM yesterday about the
guy in Europe and think that Apple is just screwing themselves over. I
mean, how hard is it to send someone just the part they need, rather than
messing with the whole computer?

Of course, you can always do the 'Red Green Show Handyman Corner' thing like
I did - duct tape the brittle plastics back together on the Display Access
Cover on my 540c....

Just a thought,
Eric
