I wrote Sonnet and asked them about the "problems" if interested below is their company line, replies to me are running about 2 to 1 favorable, to those who have upgraded. Thank you to all who have taken time to write me with your experiences, it is helpful and very nice of you. Interesting note on the Ram Doubler, some have reported this is unusable with the G3 card, wonder if those who have had the problem agree that a reinstall after the upgrade fixes this problem, as RAM is an issue. And what is the bug in 8.6-that is apple's problem and is not there in 8.1 or 9.1, is it possible to fix 8.6 with a minor extension change from 8.1 to 8.6. I have both 8.1 and 8.6 but find 8.6 more stable on my 6100 G3 (Newer) and like Sherlock. Thanks all from Big Lake Geoff Drill in George W's Back Yard not mine- Save The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge-The last wilderness left. From: support <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Geoffrey <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Geoffrey, That's partially correct. About 10% of those folks that upgrade with our card will run smack into a bug in OS 8.6, 9.0 and 9.04 that involves sound playback. This is not our bug (it's Apple's) but the presence of a G3 chip brings it out. If it was our bug, it would happen 100% of the time. But it doesn't. We've never been able to establish a pattern of what machine will have a problem and which one won't. It's not our bug to fix. So most of the unlucky 10% just stick with OS 8.5.1 or lower since the bug isn't there. Or they upgrade to OS 9.1 since the bug was fixed there by Apple. Hope that clears it up for you and makes your buying decision easier. Just buy our card from someone who'll give you a 14 to 30 day money back. You'll know instantly if you have the bug or not. Play a QT movie and your machine will lock up hard. If it plays fine, you don't have it. About the only other thing we've noticed is that lots of PB1400s still use RAM Doubler and Speed Doubler with their machines and those apps should be de-installed and re-installed with the G3 in place. They tend to throw a fit if you switch processors on them after they've been installed. Personally, I recommend pitching them since they're no longer supported by Connectix. -- = Sonnet Customer Service [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
