You could try a Newton serial-to-parallel adapter before shelling out large
bucks. You'll probably have to do a thorough search on the web to find one,
but they should be pretty cheap (I remember seeing them at $5 maybe 6 months
ago, I think from Smalldog). Don't know about software, though.
Some stores specializing in older Mac hardware might also have the original
Powerprint package (powered serial-to-parallel adapter, plus software),
which is compatible with non-PPC Macs and, I think, up to OS 8.1. I remember
seeing this at around $20, though I can't remember the store!
