What you need is some kind of MIDI interface. A MIDI midi interface plugs into your modem/printer port and will give you MIDI input/output. You will also need some kind of MIDI sequencing software.
MOTU, MIDIman and (formerly) Opcode mkae MIDI interfaces. MOTU, Steinberg and EMagic make MIDI sequencing software. Hope this helps. Entire books could (and have) been written on this topic.
