You have had a couple of excellent replies to your question, but in case
it helps, let me tell you what I use. [I had good advice from this list
when I first started on using the digital camera with the PB]

I have a PB3400c/240. When I bought this some years back I also wanted a
good digital camera, so did my homework on various digital photo
newsgroups and eventually secured a secondhand Olympus Camedia C 1400-L
(called 600L I think in US). It came with software and a serial cable,
and also uses Smart Media cards. 1.4 million pixels. It is fine for how
I use it - web photos, snap-shots and I could enlarge if wished up to
about A4 size print without a problem.

At the time I bought it I was told a Smart Media reader would download
more quickly to the computer, but I do not take photos in huge numbers
and the serial cable has been fine. I did not want to outlay more money
since I had already bought a battery charger and spare batteries.

[I also downloaded Cameraid image manipulation software from
<www.cameraid.com> great shareware]

Good luck!

BTW, while on the topic of digital photography, in case anyone wants to
improve their digital photos, have a look at <www.dpchallenge.com>
