PowerBook 1400 RAM.

Correct.

There's one slot for user RAM, it can take a maximum of two modules
(piggybacked), although user experience indicates that piggybacking RAM is
the source of many a headache, and using more than one module blocks some
expansion options (the ViewPOWR 16-bit video card, for instance, I don't
know of any others).

The design of the 1400 dates back to 1996, so I'd think RDRAM/RamBus is
quite unlikely. ;-)

The RAM module design is proprietary, so you'll need PB1400-specific RAM.

Try www.upgradestuff.com, www.macsales.com, or the links from the PowerBook
1400 page at www.lowendmac.com.
